I use startup.cpl to check what programs I have loading at startup. Every time I go into it I get worried about programs I don’t recognise, particularly:
- RtHDVCpl.exe
- Skytel.exe
While most programs can be identified by the friendly name or path, if not the EXE name, these have only these cryptic names in both fields and no path.
Turns out, after searching on Google, they both belong to Realtek, my sound card.
After finding that out I can see that the first stands for “Realtek HD Control Panel” (although Windows has supported more than 8 character filenames for about 14 years now, so I don’t understand why they make it so cryptic), but I still have no idea what “Skytel” means!
